And We're Off

Normally I hate Heathrow but today's (21st) experience has been excellent.  Emirates are very efficient and everyone at the airport (from the Hoppa driver to the staff at The Bridge where we had breakfast) have all been happy and smiley.  Maybe they take happy pills!

Flight was a bit late taking off but the plane was lovely.  Plenty of leg room and comfy seats.  The second leg from Dubai to Singapore less so as we had a smaller plane and for some reason we all found it impossible to sleep.  However food was plentiful and not bad for airline grub.  Complimentary drinks throughout out too!

Finally arrived in Singapore at 8.30 am Wednesday, midnight Tuesday our time.  Unfortunately our rooms weren't ready so we had to hang around for a few more hours.  We've now had a nice rest and ready to face the evening.  We had a thunderstorm earlier so fingers crossed the rest of the time will be dry.

Park Inn Hotel Heathrow

Finally arrived after a weird journey in which our SatNav took us a very strange route! First detour took us on a fairly scenic drive heading towards the A3 towards Portsmouth before taking us back onto the M25! The second took us off, round a roundabout and straight back on.  It's still a mystery as to why.

Check in was a bit stressful as they only had a reservation for one room despite the paperwork clearly  showing two and four people.  Thankfully this was eventually sorted out as none of us fancied sharing.  I thought this mix up deserved complimentary drinks and so we all enjoyed drinks on the hotel.

One week to go!

Now getting super excited.  Suitcases have been packed, weighed, re-packed and weighed again in an effort to get the weight down!  If only we could afford First Class it wouldn't be a problem.  The paperwork for this holiday is phenomenal, need another suitcase just for that!

At least we now know for sure where we will be staying in Singapore, The Orchard Hotel on, believe it or not Orchard Road which is, apparently a very lively place.  I'm also looking forward to travelling on the MRT which given how humid it's likely to be, will probably be the best way to get around.

Sue (Clinker) has suggested we might like to do the Night Safari round Singapore Zoo and as we are already doing the River Safari as part of the package, this sounds like a good idea.

So Singapore here we come!
